Therese Brisson named Skate Canada CEO

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Therese Brisson of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec has been named the chief executive officer of Skate Canada according to the Canadian Press on Wednesday. Brisson, who won a gold medal in women’s hockey at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, has experience in an executive role in sports in the past. From 2020 to 2026, Brisson was the president and chief executive officer of Alpine Canada.

Brisson has her doctorate in Kinesiology from the University of Montreal. She also taught Kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick.

Skate Canada is the governing body of the Canadian figure skating program. It is responsible for creating the Canadian Figure Skating Championships and the very prestigious Skate Canada International event, which is part of the International Skating Union Grand Prix.

At the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, Team Canada won one bronze medal in figure skating. Piper Gilles of Toronto, Ontario, and Paul Poirier of Ottawa, Ontario placed third in the ice dancing event. Then at the 2026 World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, Team Canada won two medals. Gilles and Poirier won the silver medal in the ice dance, and Lia Pereira of Milton, Ontario, and Trennt Michaud of Belleville, Ontario won bronze in the pairs event.
