Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia won the silver medal in the 2026 Diamond League Finals in Brussels, Belgium on Friday. This was the first event of the Diamond League Finals and Mitton came away with her sixth Diamond League medal of the season and the 21st Diamond League medal of her career.
Mitton had a second place throw of 20.64 metres. Chase Jackson of the United States won the gold medal with a throw of 21.14 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands won the bronze medal with a throw of 20.57 metres. Mitton reached the podium by 1.05 metres. Yemisi Mary of Germany finished in fourth place with a throw of 19.59 metres.
In 2024, Mitton won the gold medal in the Diamond League Finals in Brussels. She had a throw of 20.25 metres, which was 0.39 fewer metres than her silver medal throw on Friday.
Mitton has now won a Diamond League Finals medal in each of the last five years. She also won silver in Zurich in 2022, silver in Eugene in 2023, and bronze in Zurich in 2025.
Mitton’s five other Diamond League medals in 2026 were bronze in Shaoxing, China on May 16, bronze in Stockholm, Sweden on June 7, bronze in Oslo, Norway on June 10, gold in Paris, France on June 28, and bronze in Katowice, Poland on August 22. Of Mitton’s 21 Diamond League medals in her career, she has won three gold medals, nine silver medals and nine bronze medals. The Diamond League Finals silver medal in Brussels will give Mitton confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
