The Toronto Blue Jays are red hot as of late. They are winners of six of their last seven games, and are only one game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final wildcard spot in the American League.
On Friday, we saw the Blue Jays bats come alive. They scored nine runs in a dominant 9-2 Toronto win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Four Blue Jays had multi-hit games. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero of Montreal, Quebec, catcher Alejandro Kirk, shortstop Ernie Clement and left fielder Myles Straw all had two hits. Clement, Kirk, and designated hitter George Springer all had a double, while rookie first baseman Sean Keys hit his second home run of his Major League Baseball career. Keys’s first career home run was on Canada Day in a 9-3 Blue Jays win over the New York Mets.
On the mound, Canadian Jameson Taillon started the game for Toronto, but only pitched two innings before leaving the game with an arm injury. Joe Mantiply, Braydon Fisher, Brendon Little and Michael Lorenzen pitched very well in relief. Mantiply got his second win of the season, and Lorenzen recorded his first save.
Even though the Blue Jays won on Friday, they actually lost ground to the Guardians. That is because Cleveland beat the Detroit Tigers in both games of a doubleheader.
