Cal Quantrill records 60th MLB quality start

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ontario recorded the 60th quality start of his Major League Baseball career on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 6-0 Rangers shutout win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Quantrill threw seven shutout innings and gave up only two hits and two walks. He had five strikeouts. Of the 95 pitches Quantrill threw, he had 61 strikes.

With the win, Quantrill improved to a record of seven wins and five losses with an earned run average of 2.79 with the Rangers this season. In 29 games and 96 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 79 hits, 30 earned runs, 11 home runs and 24 walks, to go along with 73 strikeouts, six quality starts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.07.

Quantrill has now had 60 MLB quality starts with five different franchises. He has had four quality starts with the San Diego Padres, 37 quality starts with Cleveland, 12 quality starts with the Colorado Rockies, one quality start with the Miami Marlins and six quality starts with the Rangers.

With the win, the Rangers improved to a record of 70 wins and 71 losses. Despite being one game below .500, the Rangers are only two games back of the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West.
