As we approach Labour Day (which is considered the unofficial halfway mark of the Canadian Football League on an annual basis), the Calgary Stampeders and Ottawa Redblacks have not had great seasons to say least. Both organizations are in the basement in their respective divisions. The Stampeders are at five wins and six losses in the West Division, while the Redblacks are at zero wins and 11 losses in the East Division.
Over the last 10 days, the Stampeders and Redblacks signed a Canadian. On August 27, the Redblacks signed defensive lineman Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal of Montreal, Quebec, and on Friday, the Stampeders signed defensive lineman Collin Kornelson of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It should be noted that the Redblacks have given up the most points this year in the Canadian Football League (413), and the Stampeders have given up the second most points in the CFL in 2026 (350).
Lemieux-Cardinal was originally signed by the Redblacks in 2023, but was released by Ottawa before playing a single game. He played the last two seasons (2024 and 2025) with the Montreal Alouettes, where he played 11 games.
Kornelson has played two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2025 and 2026), and has five solo tackles in 14 games. He was released on August 12 by Winnipeg before signing with Calgary.
