Norman Powell named NBA’s Eastern Conference player of the week

Toronto Raptors shooting guard Norman Powell of San Diego, California was named the Eastern Conference player of the week for the week from March 2 to March 8 according to the Canadian Press. Powell averaged 31.3 points per game.

In the three games, Powell scored 26 points in a 123-114 win over the Phoenix Suns on March 3, a career high 37 points in a 121-113 win over the Golden State Warriors on March 5 and then 31 points in a 118-113 win over the Sacramento Kings on March 8.

In the Raptors win over the Kings, Powell tied a career high with six three-pointers. He also had six three pointers in a 110-102 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on November 16 and in a 122-117 win over the Atlanta Hawks on January 20.

Powell is enjoying a career season with the Raptors. He is averaging career highs in points per game (16.4), rebounds per game (3.7), assists per game (1.8), field goal percentage (.502), and free throw percentage (.838). Powell is clearly one of the reasons the Raptors are second in the East at 46 wins and 18 losses.

However even though the Raptors beat the Utah Jazz 101-92 on Monday, Powell only played one minute and 35 seconds as he had to leave the game with a sprained ankle. Serge Ibaka and Pascal Siakam with the dominant Raptors in the victory as they each picked up double doubles. Ibaka had 27 points and 13 rebounds, while Siakam had 27 points and 11 rebounds.
