Jake Allen records 21st NHL career shutout

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen of Fredericton, New Brunswick recorded his 21st National Hockey League career shutout on Sunday. Allen made 29 saves as the Blues defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Allen made seven saves in the first period, 13 saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Patrick Kane led the Blackhawks with seven shots on goal.

Offensively in the two goal Blues win, St. Louis got goals from Robert Bortuzzo of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Alex Pietrangelo of King City, Ontario. Bortuzzo scored from Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Jaden Schwartz of Wilcox, Saskatchewan at 6:41 of the first period which put the Blues up 1-0. Pietrangelo, who won a gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, then scored from Sammy Blais of Montmagny, Quebec and Schwartz at 5:37 of the third period to put the Blues up 2-0. Schwartz, who was the only player in the game with more than one point, now has 12 multi-point games this season.

Allen meanwhile recorded his second shutout this season. His previous shutout came in a 4-0 Blues win over the Chicago Blackhawks on December 2, 2019.

On the season, Allen has a record of 11 wins, six regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.20 and a save percentage of .925.

The Blues currently have the best record in the Western Conference. At 92 points, they have a record of 41 wins, 18 regulation losses and 10 losses in extra time.
