Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won his seventh career gold medal at the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships on Saturday. Kingsbury, who won the gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, won the gold medal in the men’s moguls competition in Bakuriani, Georgia. Of Kingsbury’s seven World Championship gold medals, four have come in moguls, and three have come in dual moguls.
In the men’s moguls super final, Kingsbury had a first place score of 89.82 points. Matt Graham of Australia won the silver medal with a score of 88.9 points. Reigning Olympic gold medalist Walter Wallberg of Sweden won the bronze medal with a score of 88.52 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 5.83 points over Pavel Kolmakov of Kazakhstan, who was in fourth place with a score of 83.99 points.
On Sunday, Kingsbury will be looking to win his second gold medal of the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships when he competes in the dual moguls. Kingsbury has won the gold medals in the moguls and dual moguls at the last two World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships. In 2019 they were in Park City, Utah, and in 2021 they were in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Dual moguls will be making its Olympic debut at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
