Mikael Kingsbury wins gold and silver in Sweden

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathes-des-Monts, Quebec won a pair of medals this past weekend at a World Cup moguls event in Idre Fjall, Sweden. He won the gold medal in the dual moguls on Sunday, and a silver medal in the dual moguls on Saturday.

In the dual moguls on Sunday, Kingsbury defeated Filip Gravenfors of Sweden in the final. Kingsbury had 19 points, while Gravenfors had 16 points. Nick Page of the United States won the bronze medal as he beat fellow American Cole McDonald 21-14 in the bronze medal match. Kingsbury beat Julien Viel of Quebec City, Quebec 21-14 in the first round, Severi Vierela of Finland 23-12 in the quarterfinals, and McDonald 20-15 in the semifinals.

In the moguls on Saturday, Kingsbury had a score of 79.86 points. Page won the gold medal with 81.02 points. Walter Wallberg of Sweden won the bronze medal with 78.98 points. Kingsbury earned a medal by 1.4 points over Ikuma Horishima of Japan, who had 78.46 points.

In the World Cup moguls standings, Kingsbury leads with 180 points. Page was second with 150 points. On Sunday was the first World Cup dual moguls event of the season. Kingsbury won the gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and will be a strong medal contender for Canada in moguls and dual moguls at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina D’Ampezzo.
