Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ontario recorded the 62nd quality start of his Major League Baseball career on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 7-6 Rangers win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
Quantrill threw six innings, faced 22 batters, and gave up two earned runs, and five hits. He had four strikeouts compared to zero walks. Of the 70 pitches Quantrill threw, he had 50 strikes.
With the win, Quantrill improved to a record of nine wins and five losses with an earned run average of 2.90 with the Rangers this season. In 31 games and 108 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 89 hits, 35 earned runs, 13 home runs and 25 walks, to go along with 81 strikeouts, eight quality starts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.05.
Quantrill has now had 62 MLB quality starts with five different franchises. He has had four quality starts with the San Diego Padres, 37 quality starts with Cleveland, 12 quality starts with the Colorado Rockies, one quality start with the Miami Marlins and eight quality starts with the Rangers.
With the win, the Rangers improved to a record of 74 wins and 76 losses. Despite being two games below .500, the Rangers are only one game back of the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West and two games back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final wildcard spot in the American League.
