According to Bradley van Paridon of CBC News on Monday, Calgary, Alberta will host the 2027 Winter X Games from February 19-21. There will be eight snowboarding events and eight freestyle skiing cevents. The snowboarding and freestyle skiing events are superpipe, knuckle huck, big air and slopestyle for men and women.
Spectators who follow the Olympic Games may be unfamiliar with the knuckle huck. In this event, athletes go down the hill without going down the jump.
There will actually be three Winter X Games in 2027. It is no surprise that Aspen, Colorado will be the sight of one event, as they traditionally host the Winter X Games every year. This Winter X Games event will be from January 29-31. The third Winter X Games event will be in Ruka, Finland from April 9-11.
The 2027 Winter X Games will be a little bit different from years past. That is because athletes will be part of a team and participate in a league.
The most successful Winter X Games athlete ever is Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan. McMorris has won 25 Winter X Games medals, the most ever. His most successful event has been men’s slopestyle snowboarding. McMorris won bronze in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
