Team Canada is now a perfect 3-0 at the 2026 NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Tournament at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick. Canada defeated Mexico in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 on Sunday. With the win, Canada won Pool A, and has qualified directly to the semifinals on Tuesday, where they will play the winner of Cuba and Puerto Rico.
In addition to qualifying for the semifinals of the NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Tournament, Canada has also qualified for the North American, Central American and Caribbean Olympic men’s volleyball tournament which takes place on Friday and Saturday from Moncton. The winner of the four team tournament qualifies for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Three Canadians reached double digits in scoring on Sunday. They were opposite Sharone Vernon-Evans of Scarborough, Ontario (15 points), outside hitter and captain Eric Loeppky of Winnipeg, Manitoba (12 points) and middle blocker Fynn McCarthy of Kelowna, British Columbia (11 points). Vernon-Evans led Canada with 10 points off the attack and had four aces. McCarthy led Canada with six points off the attack.
In Monday’s action, there are two quarterfinal games. In addition to Cuba playing Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic will play Mexico. The winner of the Dominican Republic/Mexico game will play the United States on Tuesday. Monday’s winners will also join Canada in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Olympic men’s volleyball tournament.
