
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathes-des-Monts, Quebec and Julien Viel of Mont-Saint-Anne, Quebec each won medals at a World Cup moguls event at Beidahu, China this past weekend. Kingsbury won the silver medal in the men’s moguls competition, and Viel won the bronze medal in the men’s dual moguls competition.
Kingsbury posted a second place score of 85.91 points on Friday. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the gold medal with a winning score of 86.57 points. Filip Gravenfors of Sweden won the bronze medal with a score of 83.79 points. Kingsbury earned a medal by 2.26 points. Matt Graham of Australia finished in fourth place with a score of 83.65 points.
In the dual moguls, Viel defeated Nick Page of the United States 18-17 in the small final on Saturday. In the big final, Severi Vierela of Finland won the gold medal by beating silver medalist Horishima 20-15. Viel had previously beaten Albin Holmgren of Sweden 19-16 in the round of 16, and Gravenfors 18-17 in the quarterfinals, before losing 8-17 to Horishima in the semifinals.
For Kingsbury, he has now won 138 medals (96 gold, 32 silver, and 10 bronze medals). In the World Cup men’s moguls standings, Kingsbury leads with 575 points. Horishima is in second with 438 points.
Viel has now won three World Cup medals. He previously won bronze in men’s dual moguls in Chiesa in Valmalenco on February 11, 2023, and silver in men’s moguls in Val St. Come, Quebec on January 31, 2025. In the World Cup men’s dual moguls standings, Viel is in eighth place with 163 points, and Kingsbury leads with 344 points.
Kingsbury won the gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The medals for Kingsbury and Viel will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
