
Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurent Dubreuil of Quebec City, Quebec won two silver medals in two men’s 500 metre events this past weekend in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland. The first second place finish happened on Friday, and the second second place finish happened on Sunday. Meanwhile, Team Canada won a third medal as Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ivanie Blondin of Ottawa, Ontario placed third in Poland on Sunday in the women’s mass start.
Dubreuil posted a second place time of 34.73 seconds on Friday. Jordan Stolz of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 34.49 seconds. Jun-Ho Kim of South Korea won the bronze medal with a time of 34.77 seconds. Dubreuil reached the podium by eight one hundredths of a second over Tatsuya Shinhama of Japan, who had a fourth place time of 34.81 seconds.
Dubreuil posted a second place time of 34.7 seconds on Sunday. Yevgeniy Koshkin of Kazakhstan won the gold medal with a time of 34.52 seconds and Marek Kania of Poland won the bronze medal with a time of 34.76 seconds. Dubreuil reached the podium by .11 seconds over Wataru Morishige of Japan, who had a fourth place time of 34.81 seconds.
In the World Cup men’s 500 metre standings, Dubreuil is in second place with 384 points. Stolz leads with 514 points.
Blondin placed behind gold medalist Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands and silver medalist Francesca Lollobrigida of Italy. In the women’s mass start World Cup standings, Blondin is in sixth place with 169 points. Groenewoud leads with 280 points.
Dubreuil won the silver medal in the men’s 1000 metres, and Blondin won the gold medal in the women’s team pursuit at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The medals for Blondin and Dubreuil will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
