Marc-Andre Fleury records 57th career NHL shutout

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marc-Andre Fleury of Sorel, Quebec recorded his 57th career National Hockey League shutout on Saturday.  Fleury was in between thew pipes for the Vegas Golden Knights in a 3-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The shutout was extra special for Fleury. That is because it came over the Penguins, the franchise Fleury played for from 2003 to 2017. In 13 seasons for the Penguins, Fleury, who won a gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, had 44 shutouts.

The shutout for Fleury on Saturday was his 13th shutout with the Vegas Golden Knights and first this season. He made 29 saves in the contest, with 11 saves coming in the first period, nine saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Patric Hornqvist and Dominik Kahun shared the Penguins lead with four shots on goal each.

Paul Stastny of Quebec City, Quebec scored the game winning goal for the Golden Knights at 3:48 of the first period from Cody Glass of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Max Pacioretty. Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba scored an empty net goal to put the Golden Knights up 3-0 at 19:08 of the third period.

With the win, the Golden Knights improved to a record of six wins and three losses. They are currently tied for second place in the Pacific Division with the Anaheim Ducks. At 12 points, they are three points back of the division leading Edmonton Oilers.
