
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario was named the Professional Women’s Hockey Player First Star of the Week for the week from February 24 to March 2. In two games, Stacey had two goals and two assists for four points for the Montreal Victoire. She was also a +5 with 10 shots on goal, one faceoff win, one game-winning and three hits.
Stacey began the week with one goal and one assist for two points in a 3-1 Montreal win over the Toronto Sceptres on February 25. That was followed by one goal and one assist for two points in a 3-2 Victoire win over the Boston Fleet on March 1. The game-winning goal and faceoff win came in the Victoire win over Boston. Stacey scored from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec and Cayla Barnes with 17 seconds left in overtime.
In 2024-25, Stacey has eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 17 games. She is a +7 with four penalty minutes, nine faceoff wins, three power play goals, two game-winning goals and 66 shots on goal. Stacey’s other game-winning goal came in a 4-3 Victoire win over the Sceptres on December 21. Stacey scored from Poulin 15 seconds into overtime.
Stacey and Poulin won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Poulin also won gold in women’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
The Victoire are in first place in the PWHL standings with 41 points. They have a commanding seven point lead on the second place Fleet.
