
Team Canada won Pool C in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Cup in Vienna, Austria. On Thursday, the Canadian team comprised of Kacie Bosch of Lethbridge, Alberta, Paige Crozon of Huimboldt, Saskatchewan, Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta, and Michelle Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta won both of their games to improve to a record of three wins and one loss. They defeated Mongolia 21-9 and Hungary 21-11.
Canada entered the day at one win and one loss. On their opening day on Tuesday, Canada lost 20-18 to the Czech Republic in overtime, and then beat the United States 16-13.
Canada had identical records as the United States and Czech Republic for first place in Pool C. Canada got the tie-breaker as they went to total points scored. Canada had 76, while the United States had 75, and the Czech Republic had 66.
In Canada’s win over Mongolia on Thursday, Crozon led Canada with 11 points. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with six rebounds. In Canada’s win over Hungary, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with eight points. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds. In Canada’s win over the United States, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with eight points and five rebounds.
Canada advanced directly to the quarterfinals by winning the pool. Austria, the winner of Pool A, is the only other team to qualify directly to the quarterfinals.
