After an opening loss to the United States on Saturday (Sunday in Australia), Canada rebounded with a 2-1 win over Great Britain in their second match of the 2022 ATP Cup on Tuesday. It was a strong day for Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime who won two matches–one in singles and one in doubles.

Canada lost their first match as Denis Shapovalov of Toronto, Ontario was beaten by Daniel Evans, 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets, as this was Shapovalov’s first match of 2022. and first match since testing positive for coronavirus on his arrival to Australia on Christmas Day.

Then Auger-Aliassime took over with two impressive performances. First he beat Cam Norrie of Great Britain 7-6, 6-3, and then teamed up with Shapovalov to beat the British men’s doubles duo of Joe Salisbury and Jamie Murray, 6-4, 6-1. Jamie Murray is the older brother of three-time grand slam singles champion Andy Murray, and is a two-time grand slam champion in men’s doubles. He previously won the 2016 Australian Open and 2016 United States Open with Bruno Soares of Brazil.

In order for Canada to reach the semifinals of the ATP Cup they need to beat Germany on Thursday and get some help. Their help is needed on Wednesday in Canada (Thursday in Australia), as they need Great Britain to beat the United States.
