Team Canada is in the playoffs of the 2022 Women’s World Curling Championships in Prince George, British Columbia. The Manitoba-based team of skip Kerri Einarson, third Val Sweeting, second Shannon Birchard and lead Briane Meilleur, finished in third place after the round robin with a record of nine wins and three losses.
On Friday to close out round robin play, Canada beat Germany 8-5, and then the Czech Republic 9-6. In the three-point Canadian wins, the Canadian squad controlled the first half in each contest. They had a 5-2 lead after five ends against Germany, and then a 5-2 lead after four ends against the Czech Republic. It was an excellent day for Sweeting. She curled a miraculous 98% in the morning draw against the Germans, and then was even better at 99% against the Czechs.
Switzerland went undefeated in the round robin at 12-0. South Korea was in second at 9-3. Both Switzerland and South Korea are in the semifinals. Canada finished third in the round robin, and will play Denmark (7-5) in one of two qualification games on Saturday afternoon. The other game has Sweden versus the United States. The semifinals will go Saturday evening.
