Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta is in the Colorado Avalanche record book. On Friday in a 6-3 Avalanche win over the Philadelphia Flyers, Makar scored his 24th goal, to set the record for the most goals in a single regular season by an Avalanche defenseman. Makar’s 24 goals are also more than any Quebec Nordiques defenseman had in a single season. The Nordiques moved to Colorado in 1995.

Sandis Ozolinsh had the old record of 23 goals. The Latvian set the Avalanche/Nordiques initial record in 1996-97.

Makar set the record at 8:25 of the third period. It was his second goal of the game and came from Mikko Rantanen to put the Avalanche up 6-3 at the time to close out the scoring. Makar’s first goal of the game came on the power play at 13:46 of the first period from Nazem Kadri of London, Ontario to put Colorado up 2-1.

On the season, Makar has 24 goals and 49 assists for 73 points. He is +37 with 14 penalty minutes, 27 power-play points, five game-winning goals, 27 power-play points, 183 shots on goal, 83 blocked shots, 74 hits, 33 takeaways, and 29 giveaways.

The Avalanche have the best record in the National Hockey League. With 97 points, they have a record of 46 wins, 14 regulation losses, and five losses in extra time.
