Canada reaches quarterfinals at 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championship

Team Canada is in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Helsinki, Finland. On Tuesday, Canada trounced France 7-1 to finish Group A action with a record of five wins and two losses. That was good enough for third place. They will play Sweden in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

In Canada’s win over France, Ottawa Senators right winger Drake Batherson of New Minas, Nova Scotia led the team in scoring with four assists. Winnipeg Jets centre Pierre-Luc Dubois of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec had two goals and one assist for three points, while Buffalo Sabres centre Dylan Cozens of Whitehorse, Yukon also had three points, as he had one goal and two assists.

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Zach Whitecloud of Brandon, Manitoba and Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn, Manitoba also had multi-point games as Whitecloud had one goal and one assist, while Sanheim had two assists. The other Canadian goal scorers were New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson of Melville, Saskatchewan, Anaheim Ducks left winger Max Comtois of Longueuil, Quebec, and Moscow Dynamo center Eric O’Dell of Ottawa, Ontario. O’Dell has played the last six seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League.

The other quarterfinals have Switzerland versus the United States, Finland versus Slovakia, and Germany versus the Czech Republic. The semifinals go on Saturday, and the finals go on Sunday.
