Promise David of Brampton, Ontario is joining the English Premier League. According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, the striker who represented Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is going from Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise to England’s Brighton and Hove Albion for a fee of $29.7 million if criteria are met.
Brighton and Hove are the sixth professional soccer team David has played with over the years. He was previously with Croatia’s NK Trnje from 2019 to 2021 (one goal win five games), Malta’s Valletta in 2022 (two goals in nine games), Malta’s Sirens in 2023 (zero goals in seven games), Estonia’s Nomme Kalju FC from 2023 to 2024 (21 goals in 39 games) and Union Saint-Gilloise from 2024 to 2026 (29 goals in 59 games).
Often David has Promise on the back of his jersey to separate himself from Canadian National teammate Jonathan David of Ottawa, Ontario. In 14 international games for Canada, Promise David has four goals. The first goal was the game-winning goal in a 4-2 Canada win over Ukraine at the 2025 Canadian Shield in Toronto, Ontario. The second goal was in a 6-0 Canada win over Honduras at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup in Vancouver, British Columbia. The third goal was in a 2-0 Canada win over Venezuela in a friendly at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The fourth goal was in a 2-1 Canada loss to Switzerland at the 2026 World Cup.
