Cal Quantrill records 57th MLB career quality start

Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ontario record his 57th Major League Baseball quality start on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-0 Texas Rangers shutout win over the Washington Nationals at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Quantrill three seven shutout innings. He gave up four hits, and had five strikeouts compared to zero walks. He had 91 pitches of which 61 pitches were strikes. This is Quantrill’s first season with the Rangers, and this was his best performance.

With the win, Quantrill improved to a record of five wins and four losses on the season with an earned run average of 3.13. After 26 games and 77 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 67 hits, 27 earned runs, nine home runs and 22 walks, with 54 strikeouts, three quality starts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.15.

Quantrill has now had 57 MLB quality starts with five different franchises. He has had four quality starts with the San Diego Padres, 37 quality starts with Cleveland, 12 quality starts with the Colorado Rockies, one quality start with the Miami Marlins and three quality starts with the Rangers.

With the win, the Rangers improved to a record of 62 wins and 64 losses. Despite being two games below the .500 mark, they have the third wildcard spot in the American League and are only one game back of the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West.
