The University of Victoria Vikes won the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championship in women’s field hockey on Saturday. At the University of Victoria Field Hockey Turf in Victoria, British Columbia, the Vikes won game two of their best of three series 2-1 over the York University Lions 2-0 to win the series two games to none. The Vikes won game one of the series 2-0 on Friday.
The Vikes goal scorers on Friday were Chloe Langkammer of Duncan, British Columbia and Anni Kleinschmidt. The Vikes goal scorers on Saturday were Anna Mollenhauer and Cara Butler, each of Victoria. The Vikes scored one goal in each half in game one, while in game two, Victoria went out to a 2-0 lead before York closed out the scoring. Mollenhauer’s game two goal was in the first minute of the game.
Mollenhauer, who is a defender, has had quite the women’s field hockey career for the Vikes. On Thursday, she won her third Liz Hoffman Award which is presented to the best women’s field hockey player at the Canadian university level. She previously won in 2018 and 2021. During the 2022 women’s field hockey season, Mollenhauer was exceptional offensively and defensively. She scored nine goals in 10 games and helped the Vikes record six shutouts.
