Three Canadians won the bronze medal in giant slalom alpine skiing at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang on Wednesday. Mac Marcoux of Havilland Bay, Ontario won the bronze medal in the men’s giant slalom for the visually impaired, Mollie Jepsen of Vancouver, British Columbia won the bronze medal in the women’s standing giant slalom competition and Alexis Guimond of Gatineau, Quebec won the bronze medal in the men’s standing giant slalom competition.
Marcoux posted a third place time of 2:17.51 for his second medal of the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. He previously won a gold medal in the men’s downhill.
In the men’s giant slalom for the visually impaired, Giacomo Bertagnolli of Italy won the gold medal with a time of 2:10.51. Jakub Krako of Slovakia won the silver medal with a time of 2:15.59. Marcoux earned his bronze medal by 0.16 seconds over Miroslav Haraus of Slovakia, who was in fourth place with a time of 2:17.67.
In the men’s giant slalom standing competition, Guimond posted a third place time of 2:13.67. Theo Gmur of Switzerland won the gold medal with a time of 2:12.47. Aleksei Bugaev of the Neutral Paralympic Athletes won the silver medal with a time of 2:13.49. Guimond earned his medal by 1.13 seconds over Martin France of Slovakia, who had a fourth place time of 2:14.80 seconds.
In the women’s giant slalom standing competition, Jepsen posted a third place time of 2:25.72. Marie Bochet of France won the gold medal with a time of 2:22.92. Andrea Rothfuss of Germany won the silver medal with a time of 2:25.18. Jepsen earned her medal by 3.54 seconds over Alana Ramsay of Calgary, Alberta, who finished in fourth place with a time of 2:29.26.
Canada is now at five gold medals, one silver medal and 10 bronze medals for 16 total medals. The United States lead with 21 medals and the Neutral Paralympic Athletes are in second with 17 medals. Canada and the Ukraine are tied for third.
