Team Canada wins gold in two synchronized diving events at 2022 Canada Cup

Team Canada won two gold medals in synchronized diving events at the 2022 Canada Cup in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday in events with Olympic status. The Canadian team of Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Montreal, Quebec and Rylan Wiens of Calgary, Alberta placed first in the men’s 10 metre synchronized diving, while Margo Erlam of Calgary, Alberta and Mia Vallee of Beaconsfield, Quebec won gold in the women’s 3 metre synchronized diving. In all, Team Canada won eight medals in events that have Olympic status.

In the men’s 10 metre synchronized diving, Zsombor-Murray and Wiens posted a winning score of 436.56 points. They were one of two Canadian teams to reach the podium in the event, as Ben Tessier of Blainville, Quebec and Matt Cullen of Rosemere, Quebec won the bronze medal with a score of 374.31 points.

In the women’s three metre synchronized diving, Erlam and Vallee combined for 305.4 points. They were followed by Pamela Ware of Greenfield Park, Quebec and Aimee Wilson of Calgary, who were in second place with 299.46 points.

In the women’s 10 metre final on Saturday, Celina Toth of St. Thomas, Ontario won the silver medal with a score of 332.3 points. Ingrid Oliveira of Brazil won the gold medal with a score of 361.9 points.

Then on Sunday, Canada won three more medals. In the women’s three metre springboard final, Vallee and Ware finished second and third with 341.25 points and 315.55 points respectively. Sarah Bacon of the United States won gold with 359.75 points. In the men’s 10m platform final, Wiens won the silver medal with 472.6 points. Joshua Hedberg of the United States won gold with 477.95 points.
