We are four days into the Canadian Women’s National Curling Championships and there are two teams undefeated with a perfect record of four wins and zero losses. In Pool A, Selena Sturmay of Edmonton, Alberta has been perfect so far. Meanwhile, in Pool B, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba also does not have a loss after four games. It should be noted that Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario is also undefeated, but she has only played three games. Jones won her gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
On Monday, Sturmay’s key win came in the evening draw as she defeated Saskatchewan 8-4. With the game tied at three, Sturmay’s Alberta team controlled the second half of the game as she outscored Skylar Ackerman 5-1. Ackerman had a key flash that led to the Alberta win. Meanwhile, Jones clobbered New Brunswick 11-3 for her lone win of the day.
In Pool A, four more teams are above .500. They are Canada’s Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba (4-1), Quebec’s Laurie St-Georges (3-1), Ackerman (3-2), and Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville (3-2). Einarson’s only loss came to Sturmay on Sunday by a score of 8-6, and St-Georges’s only loss came to Einarson by a score of 8-2 on Friday.
In Pool B, two more teams are above .500. British Columbia’s Clancy Grandy is at 3-1 and Manitoba’s Kate Cameron is at 2-1. Grandy’s only loss came on Sunday as she lost 10-3 to Jones. Cameron’s only loss came on Monday, as she was spanked 11-4 to Danielle Inglis of Ottawa.
