The Northwest Territories delivered with a magical comeback on Tuesday at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary, Alberta. Down 7-0 to Ontario’s Danielle Inglis after three ends, the Northwest Territories marched all the way back and came away with a 10-9 win. The Northwest Territories’s skip is Kerry Galusha, and their fourth rock thrower is Jo-Ann Rizzo.
Three times at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts have come back from six point deficits. However, no team has ever been behind by a touchdown and delivered a W.
The most significant game on Tuesday was in the evening draw as Ontario’s Rachel Homan beat Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones 7-5 in a battle of world champions. A key moment came in the seventh end as Jones hit and rolled out with her final shot, and allowed Homan to pick up two, and take a 6-5 lead. Then after a steal in the ninth end, Homan won the game with a spectacular double takeout as Jones was counting two points in the four foot.
Homan discusses her game-winning shot.
“My sweepers make me feel pretty good,” explains Homan. “They make me feel like I can make anything out there. Tracy also did a great job with the line call.”
There are two teams undefeated at the moment. Ontario leads Pool B at five wins and zero losses, and Alberta leads Pool A at five wins and zero losses.
