Sam Montembeault records first career NHL shutout

Sam Montembeault of Becancour, Quebec recorded his first career National Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. The Montreal Canadiens goaltender made 32 saves as Montreal blanked the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

Montembeault made four saves in the first period, 14 saves in the second period, and 14 saves in the third period. Offensively for Montreal on Wednesday, the Canadiens were led in scoring by Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario, who had two goals and one assist for three points. The Canadiens also got a goal from Canadian forward Jake Evans of Toronto, Ontario.

This was also Montembeault’s fifth win this season with the Canadiens as he also beat the Nashville Predators 6-3 on November 20, the Dallas Stars 5-3 on January 18, the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on February 17, and the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 on February 21. Prior to this season, Montembeault won nine games in 25 games played with the Florida Panthers.

So far this season, Montembeault had a record of five wins, 10 regulation losses, and four losses in extra time. He also has a goals against average of 3.53 and a save percentage of .902.

The Canadiens have now won four straight games. In this stretch, they have also beaten the Blues, Maple Leafs, and New York Islanders.
