
Reece Howden of Chilliwack, British Columbia won a World Cup men’s ski cross event in Gudauri, Georgia on Saturday. It was one of three World Cup ski cross medals Canadians won the over the weekend. India Sherret of Cranbrook, British Columbia won the bronze medal on Friday, and Courtney Hoffos of Invermere, British Columbia won the bronze medal on Saturday.
In the World Cup men’s ski cross event on Saturday, Howden beat silver medalist Florian Wilmsmann of Germany and bronze medalist Simone Deromedis of Italy, and won all four of his races in the event. Sherret meanwhile, placed behind gold medalist Fanny Smith of Switzerland and silver medalist Jole Galli of Italy. Sherret was second behind Daniela Maier of Germany in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Hoffos finished behind gold medalist Galli and silver medalist Smith. Hoffos won the second quarterfinal and first semifinal.
In the World Cup men’s ski cross standings, Howden is in third place with 658 points. He is behind Deromedis with 799 points and Wilmsmann with 700 points. In the World Cup women’s ski cross standings, Sherret leads with 795 points, and Hoffos is seventh with 442 points. The World Cup medals won by Howden, Sherret and Hoffos will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
