Mikael Kingsbury wins two moguls gold medals in Kazakhstan

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec continued his remarkable freestyle skiing career this weekend in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Kingsbury won the gold medal in moguls on Friday, and dual moguls on Saturday. He now has 98 career World Cup moguls wins.

On Friday, Kingsbury posted a winning score of 87.17 points. Daeyoon Jung of South Korea won the silver medal with a score of 79.08 points, and Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the bronze medal with a score of 77.82 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 3.58 points over Filip Gravenfors of Sweden, who was in fourth place with a score of 77.59 points.

On Saturday, Kingsbury beat silver medalist Horishima 24-11 in the dual moguls final. Matt Graham of Australia won the small final to win bronze. Kingsbury also beat Rasmus Stegfeldt of Sweden 20-15 in round of 16, Cooper Woods of Australia 23-12 in the quarterfinals, and Graham 20-15 in the semifinals.

Kingsbury has now won the men’s World Cup moguls singles standings with 675 points. Horishima is second with 498 points. In the men’s World Cup dual moguls standings, Kingsbury has 444 points. Horishima is second with 360 points. There is one more men’s dual moguls event this season, and that will take place in Livigno, Italy on March 12. Kingsbury won a gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and his two gold medals in Kazakhstan will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
