Mikael Kingsbury and Maia Schwinghammer win moguls medals in Sweden

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec and Maia Schwinghammer of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan each won medals on Friday in a World Cup moguls event in Idre Fjall, Sweden. Kingsbury won the gold medal in the men’s event and Schwinghammer won the bronze medal in the women’s event.

For Kingsbury, it was his 92nd World Cup victory and 131st medal. He has also won 29 silver medals and 10 bronze medals. For Schwinghammer, it was her second World Cup medal. The first was a silver medal in dual moguls in Bakuriani, Georgia on December 23, 2023.

In the men’s moguls event, Kingsbury had a winning score of 87.92 points. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the silver medal with 85.89 points. Walter Wallberg of Sweden won the bronze medal with 85.63 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 2.3 points over Benjamin Cavet of France, who finished in fourth place with 85.62 points. In the World Cup moguls standings, Kingsbury leads with 200 points. Horishima is in second with 140 points.

In the women’s moguls event, Schwinghammer had 80.71 points. Jakara Anthony of Australia won the gold medal with 82.94 points. Perrine Laffont of France won the silver medal with 80.89 points. Schwinghammer reached the podium by 0.68 points over Jaelin Kauf of the United States with 79.83 points. In the World Cup standings, Schwinghammer is in third with 110 points. Anthony and Laffont are co-leaders with 180 points. The World Cup medals will give Schwinghammer and Kingsbury confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. Kingsbury’s Olympic gold medal came at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
