Vladimir Guerrero wins 2024 Tip O’Neill Award

According to Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec won the Tip O’Neill Award. The trophy is presented to the best Canadian baseball player on an annual basis. This is the second time in Guerrero Jr.’s career he has won the award. Guerrero Jr. previously received the honour in 2021.

Guerrero Jr. batted .323 this past season with 30 home runs and 103 runs bated in. During 159 games, 616 at bats, and 697 plate appearances, he scored 98 runs, and had 199 hits, 44 doubles, one triple, two stolen bases, 335 total bases, four sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .396, and a slugging percentage of .544.

Guerrero Jr.’s triple came in a 7-6 Blue Jays win over the Baltimore Orioles on August 8. It was part of a memorable game for Guerrero Jr. as he also had a double, home run and four runs batted in. This was one of two significant performances Guerrero Jr. had against the Orioles this season. On July 29 in an 8-4 Blue Jays win, Guerrero Jr. had three doubles and one home run. Guerrero Jr. also hit two home runs in a 4-0 Blue Jays win over the Texas Rangers on September 19.

This past season, Guerrero Jr. had the second best batting average in the Major Leagues. He was only behind Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals, who batted .332. Guerrero Jr. was also second in the American League in hits. Witt Jr. had the most with 211.
