Mikael Kingsbury and Justine Dufour-Lapointe win World Cup moguls medals in Utah

Canadian Olympic gold medalists Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec and Justine Dufour-Lapointe of Montreal, Quebec each won medals at a World Cup moguls competition in Deer Valley, Utah on Thursday. Kingsbury won the silver medal in the men’s World Cup and Dufour-Lapointe won the bronze medal in the women’s World Cup.

Kingsbury posted a second place score of 87.37 points. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the gold medal with 89.17 points. Felix Elofsson of Sweden won the bronze medal with a score of 81.18 points. Kingsbury, who won the gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, reached the podium by 6.43 points over Benjamin Cavet of France, who was in fourth place with a score of 80.94 points.

Dufour-Lapointe had a third place score of 78.14 points. Perrine Laffont of France won the gold medal with a score of 79.33 points. Jakara Anthony of Australia won the silver medal with 78.49 points. Dufour-Lapointe, who won the gold medal in women’s moguls at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, reached the podium by 2.26 points over fourth place finisher Hannah Soar of the United States, who had 75.88 points.

Kingsbury leads the World Cup men’s moguls standings with 660 points. Horishima is second with 515 points. Dufour-Lapointe is second in the World Cup women’s moguls standings with 389 points. Laffont leads with 636 points. The medals for Kingsbury and Dufour-Lapointe will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
