Martin Jones collects second shutout of the season

San Jose Sharks goaltender Martin Jones of Vancouver, British Columbia recorded his second shutout of the 2019-20 National Hockey League regular season on Saturday. Jones made 30 saves as the Sharks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Jones made 10 saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Kris Letang of Montreal, Quebec led the Penguins with five shots on goal.

Offensively for the Sharks over the Penguins, San Jose had four players with a multi-point game. They included Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia and Timo Meier (one goal and one assist each), Mario Ferraro of Toronto, Ontario and Marcus Sorensen (two assists each). The Sharks also had goals from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Joe Thornton of London, Ontario, Logan Couture of Guelph, Ontario and Joel Kellman. Thornton won gold for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

In 38 games, Jones has a record of 16 wins, 19 regulation losses and two losses in extra time. They have a goals against average of 2.99 and a save percentage of .897.

Jones now has 24 career shutouts. Seventeen have been with Sharks and seven have been with the Kings. With the win, the Sharks have now won two straight, but are still out of contention for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
