Brad Marchand of Halifax, Nova Scotia was one of two Boston Bruins to record a multi-point game in game one of their Eastern Conference Final series of the 2019 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs on Thursday. Marchand had two assists as the Bruins beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. With the win, the Bruins took a 1-0 lead in their best out of seven series.

Marchand recorded both of his points in the third period. With the Hurricanes leading 2-1, Marchand and David Krejci notched assists on a Marcus Johansson power play goal at 2:26 to tie the game at two goals apiece. Marchand then picked up an assist on a Bruins power play goal by Canadian Olympic gold medalist Patrice Bergeron of L’Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec at 2:54. The goal by Bergeron, who won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, would also be the game winning goal. Jake DeBrusk of Edmonton, Alberta would also pick up an assist on Bergeron’s goal.

Game two of the Bruins and Hurricanes series will be Sunday afternoon in Boston. Game one of the series between the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues starts Friday in northern California.
