Canadian Olympic gold medalist Maggie Mac Neil of London, Ontario retired on Thursday at the age of 24. Mac Neil is best known for winning a gold medal in the women’s 100 metre butterfly at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

The primary reason for Mac Neil’s retirement is because she wants to focus on her education. Mac Neil already has a sports management degree at Louisiana State University and plans to earn her law degree. In addition to attending LSU, Mac Neil began her collegiate career at the University of Michigan.

In all, Mac Neil won three Olympic medals. She also won silver in the women’s 4×100 metre freestyle and bronze in the women’s 4×100 metre medley at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
