Larry Walker to have his no. 33 retired by the Colorado Rockies

Larry Walker of Maple Ridge, British Columbia will have his number 33 retired by the Colorado Rockies on April 19, 2020 according to Field Level Media.The Rockies will be hosting the St. Louis Cardinals from Coors Field in Denver. Interestingly, Walker, who was an outfielder, played his final two Major League Baseball seasons with the Cardinals in 2004 and 2005.

Walker was with the Rockies from 1995 to 2004. In 10 seasons, he batted .334 with 258 home runs and 848 runs batted in. During his 1170 games, Walker scored 892 runs, had 1361 hits, 297 doubles, 44 triples, 126 stolen bases, 584 walks and 2520 total bases. He had an on base percentage of .426 and a slugging percentage of .618. Walker is the Rockies all-time leader in batting average, slugging percentage and on base percentage.

In 1997, Walker had a magical season for Colorado as he was named the National League Most Valuable Player. He led the Major Leagues with a .720 slugging percentage and 409 total bases, and led the National League with 49 home runs and a .452 on base percentage.

From 1998 to 2001, Walker led Major League Baseball in batting average. He also led Major League Baseball in slugging percentage (.710) and on base percentage (.458) in 1999.

Walker, a four time all-star with Colorado, will become the second Rockies player to have his number retired. The first was Todd Helton of Knoxville, Tennessee, who had his number 17 retired on August 17, 2014.
