Week 15 of the Canadian Football League season completed on Saturday with four games in one day. Three Canadians contributed to touchdowns on winning teams. They were Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Tommy Nield of Guelph, Ontario, Edmonton Elks defensive lineman Silas Hubert of Norwood, Ontario and British Columbia Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke of Victoria, British Columbia.
Nield caught a 30 yard touchdown pass from Zach Collaros to open the scoring in a 19-6 Blue Bombers win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Nield had two catches for 39 yards. For the season, Nield has 36 catches for 459 receiving yards. This was Nield’s first touchdown catch with the Blue Bombers. He had five career touchdown catches with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and two career touchdown catches with the Toronto Argonauts. With Saturday’s win, the Blue Bombers improved to a record of seven wins and six losses, and are tied with the British Columbia Lions for third place in the West Division.
Hubert blocked a Stampeders punt in the end zone and scored a touchdown in a 53-16 Elks win over Calgary at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta. At the time, the Elks went up 36-13 with one minute and four seconds left in the third quarter. This was Hubert’s first career CFL touchdown. With the win, the Elks made the postseason for the first time since 2019. They improved to a record of 10 wins and three losses and are tied with the Montreal Alouettes for the best record in the CFL.
Rourke contributed to two touchdowns on Saturday in a 48-29 British Columbia Lions win over the Montreal Alouettes at BC Palace Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia. Both of Rourke’s touchdowns came in the second quarter. He had a four-yard touchdown pass to Keon Hatcher with four minutes and 45 seconds left in the first half to put the Lions up 24-13, and then had a 14 yard touchdown run with 35 seconds left in the first half to put the Lions up 31-20. Rourke finished the game completing 24 of 33 passes for 317 passing yards, and had five rushes for 77 rushing yards.
For the season, Rourke has completed 243 passes in 342 attempts for 3476 passing yards, 16 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions. He also has 20 rushes for 246 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
