Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario reached the podium on Sunday in a World Cup Canoe Sprint event in Poznan, Poland. Vincent was in fact one of two Canadians to reach the podium in the women’s 200 metre final, as she was joined by Sophia Jensen of Edmonton, Alberta, who won the bronze medal.
Vincent had a second place time of 46.95 seconds. Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys of Cuba won the gold medal with a time of 46.85 seconds. Jensen, who won her first World Cup canoeing medal in an event with full Olympic medal status, posted a time of 47.28 seconds. Katarzyna Szperkiewicz of Poland finished in fourth place with a time of 47.38 seconds. Vincent reached the podium by 0.43 seconds. Jensen reached the podium by a tenth of a second.
This was Vincent’s second World Cup medal in two weeks. Just over a week ago in Racice, Czech Republic, Vincent won the silver medal too, and just like the event in Poland, finished behind Duboys.
Vincent won the Olympic bronze medal in the women’s C2-500 metres with Laurence Vincent-Lapointe of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. It was one of two Olympic medals for Vincent-Lapointe. She also placed second in the women’s C1-200 metres.
