Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Jennifer Abel of Montreal, Quebec and Pamela Ware of Greenfield Park, Quebec won the gold medal for Canada in the women’s three metre synchronized diving at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru on Thursday. For Abel, it was her second gold medal at the Pan American Games as she won the gold medal in the women’s three metre springboard at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. For Ware, it was her first Pan American Games gold medal.

Abel and Ware posted a winning score of 309.6 points. Brooke Schultz and Sarah Bacon of the United States won the silver medal with 290.1 points. Paola Espinosa Sanchez and Dolores Hernandez Monzon of Mexico won the bronze medal with 285 points. Abel and Ware reached the podium by 59.82 points over Diana Pineda and Steffanie Madrigal of Colombia. Pineda and Madrigal were in fourth place with 249.78 points.

Abel won her Olympic medal with Emilie Heymans of St. Lambert, Quebec in the women’s three metre synchronized springboard diving at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. It was interesting that Abel competed with Ware in Lima and not Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of Saint-Constant, Quebec, who Abel has won two world championship silver medals with in women’s three metre synchronized springboard diving. That is because there were quota spots that Diving Canada needed to follow.

As of Thursday, Canada has won 54 medals (12 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 18 bronze medals). They are tied with Mexico for the second most medals at the 2019 Pan American Games. The United States lead with 85 medals.
