Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ontario record his 58th Major League Baseball quality start of his career on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-3 Texas Rangers win over the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Quantrill threw six shutout innings and had six strikeouts compared to zero walks. He gave up six hits. Of the 24 batters Quantrill faced, he threw 96 pitches of which 68 pitches were strikes.
With the win, Quantrill improved to a record of six wins and four losses with an earned run average of 2.90. In 27 games and 83 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 73 hits, 27 earned runs, nine home runs and 22 walks, to go along with 60 strikeouts, four quality starts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.14.
Quantrill has now had 58 MLB quality starts with five different franchises. He has had four quality starts with the San Diego Padres, 37 quality starts with Cleveland, 12 quality starts with the Colorado Rockies, one quality start with the Miami Marlins and four quality starts with the Rangers.
Despite being one game below the .500 mark as a team at 65 wins and 66 losses, the Rangers are a playoff contender. They are tied with the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West, and tied with the Cleveland Guardians for the third best wildcard spot in the American League.
