Jeff Carter scores game winner in his 1000th NHL game

It was a memorable 1000th National Hockey League regular season game for Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jeff Carter of London, Ontario on Saturday. Carter, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, scored the game winning goal for the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Carter’s game winning goal came at 12:42 of the third period and broke up a 3-3 tie. Matt Roy picked up the assist. Carter was one of two Canadian Olympic gold medalists to score for the Kings in the contest. Drew Doughty of London, Ontario also scored for the Kings and was the only Kings player to have a multi-point game as he also picked up an assist. Doughty won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

In the Kings’ win over the Golden Knights, Carter also had two shots on net, one blocked shot, one takeaway and nine faceoff wins. On the season, Carter has six goals and two assists for eight points. In 20 games, he was a -5 with 16 penalty minutes, three game winning goals, 66 shots on goal, 128 faceoff wins, nine blocked shots, 14 hits, six takeaways and five giveaways. Carter’s other game winning goals this season came in a 4-1 Kings win over the Calgary Flames on October 19 and in a 3-1 Kings win over the Minnesota Wild on November 12.

Carter has also now played 500 NHL regular season games with the Kings. He has also played 461 games with the Philadelphia Flyers and 39 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 1000 games, Carter now has 371 goals and 342 assists for 713 points.

The Kings are in a rebuilding process. Yet, they have now won three games in a row. They have a record of eight wins, 11 regulation losses and one loss in extra time for 17 points.
