University of Calgary Dinos to play University of Montreal Carabins in 2019 Vanier Cup

The teams who will play in the 2019 Vanier Cup has been determined. On Saturday, the University of Montreal Carabins spanked the University of Acadia Axemen 38-0 in the 2019 Uteck Bowl from Wolfville, Nova Scotia and the University of Calgary Dinos upset the University of McMaster Marauders 30-17 in the 2019 Mitchell Bowl from McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta.

The Carabins were led offensively by running back Reda Malki of Laval, Quebec. Malki had 15 carries for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

The Dinos, who were seeded seventh and upset a third ranked Marauders squad, were led by the Philpot twins. Tyson and Jalen Philpot of Delta, British Columbia, who are both sons of former British Columbia Lions all-star running back Cory Philpot, were instrumental for the Dinos offensively. Jalen Philpot had seven catches for 130 yards and one touchdown, along with one rush for 12 yards. Tyson Philpot had three carries for 78 yards along with four catches for 41 yards for 119 total yards. The Dinos also had a big performance by running back Robinson Rodrigues of Burnaby, British Columbia, who had 126 yards rushing.

The Dinos and Carabins will play the 2019 Vanier Cup on Saturday from Stade Telus in Quebec City, Quebec. The Dinos have previously won the Vanier Cup four times (1983, 1985, 1988 and 1995). The Carabins lone Vanier Cup title was in 2014.
