Jake DeBrusk notches first career NHL hat trick

Jake DeBrusk of Edmonton, Alberta recorded his first career National Hockey League hat trick on Monday. The Boston Bruins left winger scored thrice in a 7-0 Bruins win over the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena.

DeBrusk in fact scored the Bruins first three goals of the game. His first goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, was at 1:01 of the first period from Brad Marchand of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Patrice Bergeron of L’Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec. DeBrusk’s second goal was unassisted at 13:37 of the first period. Then at the 53 second mark of the second period, DeBrusk scored from Bergeron and Charlie McAvoy. Bergeron won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

DeBrusk, who added an assist on a goal by Erik Haula, was one of four Canadians on the Bruins with a multi-point game. Bergeron had one goal and two assists for three points, Taylor Hall of Calgary, Alberta, had one goal and one assist for two points, and Marchand had two assists.

On the season, DeBrusk now has 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 48 games. He is a -1 with six penalty minutes, three power-play points, five game-winning goals, 112 shots on goal, seven faceoff wins, 16 blocked shots, 30 hits, 21 takeaways, and 14 giveaways.

The Bruins are now winners of five straight games. They have a record of 32 wins, 17 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 68 points.
