Mitch Marner named NHL player of the month for February

Toronto Maple Leafs right winger Mitch Marner of Markham, Ontario was named the player of the month for February on Tuesday. Marner had nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 12 games, and led the National Hockey League in goals, assists, and points.

Marner was also a +13 with six penalty minutes, with one power-play point, one shorthanded point, one game-winning goal, 53 shots on goal, seven hits, and six blocked shots. The game-winning goal came in a 4-3 Maple Leafs win over the Carolina Hurricanes on February 7, and the shorthanded point was an assist from a goal by David Kampf in a 6-2 Maple Leafs win over the Seattle Kraken on February 14.

Marner’s most notable game of the month came on February 26, in a 10-7 Toronto win over the Detroit Red Wings. He had four goals and two assists for six points.

In 44 games, Marner has 21 goals and 35 assists for 56 points. He is a +18 with 10 penalty minutes, 13 power-play points, three shorthanded points, four game-winning goals, 136 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, 20 blocked shots, 25 hits, 42 takeaways, and 40 giveaways. Marner’s +18 leads Toronto.

On the season, the Maple Leafs are third in the Atlantic Division with a record of 35 wins, 14 losses, and four losses in extra time for 74 points. They are only two points back of the first place Tampa Bay Lightning and one point back of the second place Florida Panthers.
