The Toronto Blue Jays had a dominant win on Wednesday as they defeated the Cleveland Guardians 11-0 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The victory came 36 years after the most famous shutout in Blue Jays history to the day. On September 2, 1990, Dave Stieb threw the only no-hitter in Blue Jays history in a 3-0 Toronto win in Cleveland.
On Wednesday, it was a spectacular game for Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec. Guerrero Jr. led the team with three hits, and a season-high five runs batted in. He had his eighth home run of the season and 22nd double of the season. Second baseman Josh Smith also homered for the Blue Jays.
On the mound, Dylan Cease had a quality start for his 10th win of the season. He threw six shutout innings and only gave up four hits and had four strikeouts compared to zero walks to lower his season earned run average to 2.25. Cease threw 83 pitches of which 56 pitches were strikes.
With the win, the Blue Jays improved to a record of 69 wins and 71 losses. Despite being two games below .500, they are in the playoff hunt. Toronto is only one game and a half back of the Guardians for the final wildcard spot.
