
Hannah Schmidt of Ottawa, Ontario and India Sherret of Cranbrook, British Columbia each won two medals in the latest World Cup women’s ski cross stop in Reiteralm, Austria this past week. On Thursday, Schmidt won gold and Sherret won bronze. On Friday, Sherret won gold and Schmidt won bronze. Meanwhile, in the men’s World Cup ski cross event on Friday, Kevin Drury of Toronto, Ontario won bronze.
In Thursday’s action, Sherret won the fourth quarterfinal and second semifinal. Schmidt finished second behind Germany’s Luisa Klapprott in the second quarterfinal, and won the first semifinal. Fanny Smith of Switzerland won the silver medal.
In Friday’s action, Schmidt finished second behind Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marielle Thompson of North Vancouver, British Columbia in the second quarterfinal and second behind Canadian Olympic silver medalist Brittany Phelan of Sainte-Agathes-des-Monts, Quebec in the first semifinal. Sherret won the fourth quarterfinal and second semifinal. Smith once again won the silver medal.
Drury finished behind gold medalist Youri Duplessis Kergomard of France and silver medalist Simone Deromedis of Italy. Drury won the fourth elimination heat, and the second quarterfinal heat before finishing behind Duplessis Kergomard in the first semifinal.
Sherret has now won nine World Cup medals (three gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals). Schmidt has also won nine World Cup medals (four gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals). Drury has now won 16 World Cup medals (five gold medals, six medals, and five bronze medals).
In the World Cup women’s ski cross standings, Sherret leads with 485 points. Schmidt is in fourth with 366 points. In the World Cup men’s ski cross standings, Drury is in sixth place with 253 points. Florian Wilmsmann of Germany leads with 455 points. The medals for Sherret, Drury and Schmidt will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
