The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario on Monday. The terms of the contract are one year and worth $950,000 according to Marcus Antonelli of Pro Hockey Rumors.
Columbus will be Talbot’s ninth National Hockey League team. The veteran journeyman who is 39 years old, has previously played two seasons with the New York Rangers (2013 to 2015), four seasons with the Edmonton Oilers (2015 to 2019), one season with the Philadelphia Flyers (2019), one season with the Calgary Flames (2019 to 2020), two seasons with the Minnesota Wild (2020 to 2022), one season with the Ottawa Senators (2022 to 2023), one season with the Los Angeles Kings (2023 to 2024), and two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings (2014 to 2026).
Twice Talbot has been a NHL All-Star. He was honoured with the Wild in 2021-22 and with the Kings in 2023-24.
This past season in Detroit, Talbot had a record of 12 wins, nine regulation losses, and six losses in extra time while backing up John Gibson. In Columbus, Talbot will be backing up Elvis Merzlikins. Also this past season, Talbot had a goals against average of 3.19 and save percentage of .883.
Talbot’s most notable NHL season came with the Oilers in 2016-17. That year he led the NHL in wins with 42 and saves with 1946.
