Nick Taylor in contention at 2025 American Express

For the second straight week, Canadian golfing star Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba is in contention on the PGA Tour. After winning last week at the Sony Open in Honolulu, Hawaii, Taylor is in eighth place after two rounds and only three strokes back of the leaders at The American Express in La Quinta, California.

Taylor is currently at -13. On Thursday, he shot a four round score of seven-under-par 65 at the Pete Dye Stadium Course. Taylor had nine birdies and two bogeys. He birdied the third, fourth, fifth, eighth, ninth, 11th, 12th, 16th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the 10th and 18th holes. On Friday, Taylor shot a four round score of six-under-par 66 at the La Quinta Country Club. Taylor had seven birdies and one bogey. He birdied the first, second, fifth, 10th, 11th, 14th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the 12th hole. On Saturday, Taylor will be competing on the Nicklaus Tournament Course.

The leaders at -16 are American Charley Hoffman and Rico Hoey of the Philippines. In third place at -15 you can find Americans Justin Lower and Mark Hubbard, and Austria’s Sepp Straka. In sixth place at -14 are American J.J. Spaun and Australian Jason Day, the 2015 PGA Championship winner. Tied with Taylor in eighth place are Americans Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler. Thomas is a two-time major champion as he won the 2017 and 2022 PGA Championship.

The American Express is a unique event on the PGA Tour as there is no cut line after 36 holes. The cut line takes place after 54 holes and players participate on a different golf course for each of the first three rounds.
